They finally dump Motorola and go with IBM's 64-bit G5. Whoohoo! No more MOT slowing us down.
It was getting FRUSTRATING how slowly Motorola was moving on releasing new CPU's!
Nevertheless, I see these first three models as very transitional machines. (And I would definitely avoid the $1999 model.) And remember these babies aren’t set to ship until "August."
However, we should all start setting aside shekels to purchase the NEXT (no pun intended) round of machines along with “Panther."
This is my first post to this forum. I am a former certified (certifiable?) Apple tech, former beta tester, a former Apple tech for a large educational system, former leader of Apple support for an ISP and web designer.
Truth be told, I’ve been making do with an old G4 450 AGP system running 9.1 because... it works. I mean seriously: with 1GB of RAM it’s stable, it runs as fast I can think of what to do next and I don’t have to buy all new peripherals.
Yes, I have OS X installed on one drive, but I don’t use it except for learning.
Once in a blue moon (“in your eyes”) I’ll try to create some obscenely huge page in Dreamweaver and will have to sit and wait, but that rarely happens. Even manipulating huge images in PhotoHog 7, this thing usually stays ahead of me.
Although, I admit, I saw where OWC has a $579 1.85 gHz CPU upgrade, and I was checking the balance on my Visa card....
