Safari - Beta 2

Anyone else tried it?

I tried out the first Beta version of Safari and it was terrible. Would not even load images from Apple's site, not to mention a large assortment of other bugs.

I just DLed the Beta 2 and it seems to be working really well. They seem to have gotten most of the bugs worked out. It even seems to keep my cookies together on OS X which IE 5.2.2 has not been able to do.

Just wondering if anyone else has played with the new version, thoughts, bugs, etc.

I didn't try Safari right away, so I missed most of the problems you and many others had. I have DL'd the latest update, and it's just fine -- not much new from the version I was using previously. This update was mostly related to security protocols if my memory is right.

It still renders most web pages exceptionally quickly, which is nice as a "Macintosh Webmaster." :)

Another nice thing I have noticed about Safari is that it displays tables and heading styles in much the same way as IE for PCs. In the past I had noticed some discrepancies in the way IE displayed pages on a PC vs. a Mac. Since I use Macs 99% of the time checking for PCs was a pain. I would have to check everything with Virtual PC. For the moment, Safari seems to be alleviating this problem. :-)

I am still hoping for a Google PR ranking in the Google toolbar Mac added. But, I won't hold my breath :-(

I'm using it. v74. I'm very happy with Safari. And the speed is welcome too.

I have found a problem with the preferences. It does not retain home pages you set after restart.

However, I am happy to say that for the first time since my switch to OS X. I have been able to stay logged in to WebMaster World indeffinantly. IE would drop the cookie every 5 - 10 minutes.

Really happy thus far!

However one problem is that I have experienced a bug with forms... When filling out multi form pages, often in the middle of several form pages the form won't respond to the submit action.

Even here at W W I have posted several times in a row, and the form won't act on the command to submit.

Confirming this - I tried the same thing with I.E., Netscape, or Opera I have no problems. This has taken place with me more times than once...

Anyone else run into this?

Just found an interesting feature. If you type a word or phase into the Google bar and right click in the field, you get some choices. Most notibly a spell check and suggest.

This made me happy as I am a notoriously bad speller.
