I'm starting up and am reviewing hosting packages and costs.
Can someone tell me in simple terms what is the difference or pros and cons between name based hosting and having a static/dedicated IP address?

search engine spiders used to have trouble when more than 1 domain was assigned to an IP number. However, I think the general consensus is that it is no problem now.

Thanks james, just to clarify, I will have 5 domains on the same virtual private server (different languages, same website function) will this be a problem for me?

I don't have any experience with that so I am not sure. My guess would be that it would be OK.
