Is there a limit to the characters in a URL that google can pick up?

For instance, if the URL had a long query? When searching in google, there is a limit to the number of characters, but will google still pick up and register the page if the URL is longer than that limit?

Google does not like session id's in URL's. Rule of thumb is not to make querystrings too long, but I doubt anybody knows for sure how long.
