Banner ads and SE ranking

Does buying banner ads on other folks' sites help in getting higher ranking

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone might know:

If I decided to buy a banner ad (or other small ad) on the site of someone who has a higher ranking than I do (and has
content which is in the same arena as my own), will that banner ad help my SE ranking? Does anyone know?

Thanks very much,

heart

PS - I am also trying to collect the following:
1) Name and info about "people in SEO"
and,
2) A webmaster's dictionary (people can look up
"serp", for instance, and see what it means.)
Any contributions to either of these are welcome!

it depends if the link is a straight link or if they are using any tracking to monitor clicks, if so the link will not help you

Most banner ads don't because of the way they are served. If it's a relevant site you could talk nto them and work out a deal so they modify the link to pass PR.

Glossary on the top.

Stick around and read through some of the forums, you may learn quick and not need an SEO. You might even like it.
Some of us "addicts" just go through the "recent posts" every day. This helps you learn things you did'nt know you "needed to know".

Hello there,

If your banner ads are directly linked to your website with no tracking then they will definitely help your link analysis. However, if they are tracked for reporting purposes then you won't be able to capilize on this. If your ads are tracked the advertising host directs the clicks to their server to log the response and then redirects to your site. Spiders will get lost in this process.

I hope this helps.
