I have a question for you - I'm very new to this, so please be patient.
I have a site with a Google page rank of 3 and a decent Alexa rank. Yet sites with no page rank and some without keywords in their meta tags rate higher than mine for certain keywords. Please could you explain how this is possible?
Could it be busted pr showing in your toolbar?
Could it be those higher placed pages have more backlinks and/or better anchor text
Could it be better keyword density?
Could it be better use of H1 - H4?
Could it be some combo of the above?
Also:
using/having Alexa toolbar/ranking won't impact Google.
Google, indeed most if not all major SE's, ignore keyword meta tags, so an absence of that meta-tag won't be a factor.
For a better picture of what Google is all about, I suggest you take a stroll the vast Google library [webmasterworld.com] that has been built here at WebmasterWorld.
I have noticed that usually websites with no rating by Google are usually a directory/portal. These types of sites offer a "add URL" feature in exchange for a return link and have more than likely got heaps of links pointing back to them. As these types of site are usually catagorised and exchange links only to websites of a similar/same nature then it could be likely that Google favours them.
