How does it work?

I have a very simple question. I am building a new site for a company that already has a different site through a different company - but they are keeping the same URL.

The other site is still up and running. Do I have to orchestrate the domain name transfer change with the other company or what? I can't just transfer the domain, so...

Thanks;)

As long as there isn't a database(of any type) running on the site, it works like this:

Put up the content, on the new site. Test, via IP until you're satisfied that it works.

Go to your domain registrar, and update your domain's nameservers to the ones given to you by the new host.

After about 12-24 hours, you'll start seeing *some* traffic on the new site. Once the traffic stops on the other site, you can call up the old host, and have them close the account.

If you're feeling exceptionally techie, you can put in a redirect on the old site that bounces them to the new site. (Exercise for reader)
