How to capture connection speed of website visitor

Is there a way to capture the connection speed of a website visitor in order to automatically send them to 1) low speed (smaller) simple pages, or 2) high speed (larger) content rich pages? Thanks -

You ask them - are you a UK bum on a slow line or a US customer on a high speed cable connection?

UK people wont know about cable as they are about 10 years behind the US.

No there is no way to capture the connection speed

You can approximate it by seeing how long it takes them to download some data. Not foolproof, but it at least allows you to group users by "really slow" or "really fast". It's probably easier on people just to ask, though.
