We use Adobe Illustrator for the more complex stuff and Photoshop for the rest.
Don't forget to "Save for Web". It make for a nice compact image.

Hi ShyTheDog!

Since I chimed in on your other question [webmasterworld.com] thought I ring in here too...

Photoshop is wonderful but pricey, but I find for web based stuff I consistently turn to Fireworks MX.

Here's another vote for Fireworks MX. If you need to create/edit images for both web and print, then I'd vote for Photoshop, but if you're only interested in web graphics, Fireworks is definitely the way to go. Since Fireworks has both vector and bitmap editing features, its sort of like having Photoshop and Illustrator in one package (though not as full-featured).
Jasc PaintShop Pro would be another consideration, especially when on a tight budget. But, when it comes to finding "how to" books and online tutorials, Photoshop and Fireworks give you a lot more options. I'm also a huge fan of Macromedia's support site; they have tons of useful information and their moderated news groups are a first-rate sorce for advice and help.

Make that three cheers for Macromedia Fireworks. It does a great job as a powerful, simple web graphics editor [macromedia.com]. You will most def want to check out the tutorials and/or online help, but once you get the hang of it, you're on easy-street to graphics that can't be beat.

Another one for Fireworks MX. Photoshop's great too, but its not for novice users, so you may have to actually learn some basics about it.
