Can freelancer connect to my DSL home network?

I have a freelancer that works from his home and I'm trying to give him access to my 2 computer home network. We both have DSL running WinXP. Can this be done?

Sure, get a free dynamic dns service, so you got a domain on your IP, and let him use remote desktop if you want to give hium full exclusive accesss, or set up a web server or ftp server if you just want him to access certain bits.

You should have Netmeeting pre-installed on windows XP; it has an option for remote networking in there somewhere.

There are several products available for remote access including PC Anywhere, NetMeeting (preinstalled on Windows usually) and Sunbelt Remote Administrator. Also, XP has remote admin built into the OS so you don't even need Net Meeting.

If it's just file management, I wouldn't grant access to the entire machine - just let him FTP stuff in and out to one folder.

Just make sure your provider doesn't have a limitation about file sizes, ftp, or anything else. I have a friend who had all sorts of problems with his ISP, what a headache.

It seems as if the FTP option is the best way for this situation. Can you please eloborate on how to set this up?

My preference of FTP server is serv-u from serv-u.com. The personal edition is free and there knowledge base and built in help files are very comprehensive. It's a lot easier to use than MS FTP in my experience.

if you are trying to access the computers as in "use them like your own" remotly, then with windows XP microsoft have made it very easy,

Start > Accessories > Communication > Remote Desktop

a very easy tool to use, and it's what i use to work on my office computer from home. all you need to do is enter the IP and then click connect! once there just type in the username and password you use to log in to that machine normally, and there you go!

only problem with it is that no one else can use (or see) the machine while it is being accessed remotly it would sit on the log on screen, and if u try to connect when he is logged in then it will log him out and you in. IF you want duel logins then Remote Admin from Famatech will do a good job.

I note that for FTP usage, FTPd also works well.
