Heya all,
I am currently doing an electronic design and digital imaging course at CIT in Canberra Australia and am seeking to expand my knowledge into web development ( through self teaching). I recently installed IIS onto my system and am defing my sites in dreamweaver locally through inetpub path. As I am currently working on three site projects atm, I am changing the directory path of my default site in IIS as I work on each.
Am I guessing correctly that proffesional web servers run multiple web sites at once, as in the dont just have a default website directory, they have multiple? If so, can anyone point me in right direction to find out how I do the same. The IIS help doesnt feed me the info I am looking for, I only get answers relating to new Consoles through MMC.
I dont mind switching the default web site path for site testing, but I would like to start building a home intranet so I can play around with that part of design & development, meaning I would require that site to run permantly and independently.
I dont expect I will need to become a master system administrator, nor do I seek to be such, but I would like to know some fundamentals that will help me create an intranet at home to work on.

Any advice would help...k thk :D

If you are running IIS on an NT workstation variant the IIS supplied (also referred to as Personal Web Server PWS) only supports one site.

NT server variants feature the full IIS which supports muliple web sites.

There is a free add-on to PWS to allow multiple websites - google "ISAPI MultiSite Filter" - nb: I haven't actually tried this!
