keyword help

google dilemma

I don't know how often this happens to you guys out there, but checking my access logs I get a lot of traffic to specific pages on my site from people searching for keywords and getting newspaper and magazine articles on my site. But how do I get google to recognise my site for the main keywords it represents? in a way that it will lead it to my index, because each one of my pages has not a nav, there are too many in case I wanted to update.

The whole reason I made my site was for fans like me to be able to get a quality website, because previously there were no sites. I've tried applying to DMOZ and Zeal but it just doesn't happen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Usually you target your main keyword(s) with your homepage, or other central pages.
The tool to get Google and other search engines to rank your homepage highest for your main keyword is links.
You should have links on all pages in your site pointing to your homepage. Even more important is to have links from other sites to your homepage or to your domain only. Those links should have your main keyword in the linktext.
Then you need to have the main keyword on the homepage in the title, and in the header, and in the text.

It will also depend on how competitive your keyword is. It will be hard to get to the top of the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) if there are a lot of authoritative sites about your keyword.

To help Google understand what the theme is of your page, give it a short title with keyword, use the keyword a few times spread over the page. Put in a large font on the page.

Having a text linking to a page will sometimes do better than an image for a link. Depending on the search engine, an 'alt' text at an image will also help.
