I'm new to all this & am using frontpage to create a website for a friend. The problem is that some of the links in the site don't seem to work on my friends computer.
The links work fine on my PC & laptop but they don't even register as links on his PC? We're both using Internet Exporer.
Any Ideas? thanks!

Front Page has a way of making your links point back to your hard drive, so instead of being like this
a href=yourpage.html

it will be like a href=C:myfiles/mycomputer/myfriendswebsite/yourpage.html

so you have to figure out how to change the links so they are not pointing back to your harddrive.

You can see them, but the rest of the world cannot.

If you know any html coding, then fix it from there, otherwise you will have to wait until a frontpage user drops in ;)

If you are moving site from computer to computer you should "publish" the site to floppy or cd and then it should work.

Publishing should do the trick, but I have FTP´d FP sites and they have worked fine.

Even if you're moving the files from machine to machine the links should stay relative to the web you are working on.

Can you describe in more detail what your friend is experiencing?

You said the some of the links arent working - i assume your friend clicks the links and goes to a page that isnt there? Or is the link just not working?

Best bet would be to publish the web and let your friend view it online. ;)

many thanks for all the replies!

1. I've checked the links & they are pointing to webpages & not files on my PC.

2. I probably did not explain properly - the site is published - when my friend clicks on the links, nothing happens - it's as if the link is not there.

thanks

Have you tried it from other PC´s? May just be an issue with his comp.

I haven't tried it on his pc - but will do so on Friday. I just assumed it was me! Do you know of any obvious problems that may cause his pc not to work with the site?
many thanks!

No idea! :)

If I had to guess I would say it would be an issue with the version of IE. Perhaps make sure it's updated to the current version?

Shouldnt make much of a difference though?

Basically check to make sure its a problem with the website or just an isolated PC. Dont want to waste time ripping your site to shreads because of a bug on someones PC. :)
