Where's the best forum for someone just starting with SEO? I'm looking for some place to lurk for a while to see how many beginner's type questions I can find the answers to.

I'm new enough I don't even know what those questions would be

While I'm asking, it'd be nice to find someplace that gave a quick overview of stuff like .htaccess, 301s, 401s, etc. Newsgroups are welcome as well.

Thanks!

Well, I wasn't sure if this was the place for SEO techniques, or if that belonged over in the Search Engine world.

Yes, you are definitely in the right place, Photon. Just hang around and READ! That's what I've been doing since February and have improved our sales, return on investment and rankings. I've also learned the ethics of SEO. :)
Have fun! There's lots to learn and to continue learning-as things change constantly.

SEO is simply developing a web site with best practices in mind and adding exceptions marketing principles,

What is often "less apparent" is managing the difference.

You can ask specific questions by adding a new thread.

Reading recents posts and commented on that threads topic, or use the site search read find specific information already published as past discussions.

Oh and photon -- welcome to WebmasterWorld! ;)
