Where can I get free images?

Anyone know of any sites on the web that provide good quality images for personal and commercial use?

I would do a search, but beware there are thousands upon thousands of these bogus sites out there.

I haven't found a good source for free images.

istockphoto.com is pretty good but not completely free. I think it costs about $.50 per download. Well worth it for me, plus you get two free when you sign up.

I'm assuming that you want the images for web use? (coz if you want print-optimised images then you're looking at a whole new world of pixel-hungry madness!)

How about going thro the google image search then once you've found an image you like, simply "borrow/nick" it?

Admittedly, not very pc, but hey, it's free!

Actually, istock's images are print optimized. Downloads are usually over 1mb per image.

I'm just wondering where everyone gets these real great images for affiliate sites. I'm sure there's a portion who rip off images from other sites. I know there are free images sites somewhere on the web. Or perhaps someone knows of a stock photo place that has photos for real low prices.

you can buy CD's with 000's of images and clip art on for a few pounds, AFAICT you can use these images as much as you want [although they prolly need chopping up in photoshop first]

I currently buy stock potos from fotoseach.com
but very very expensive $200 - $500 US a cd.

I am always looking for cheaper alternatives.

I think Meercat is talking about Photo Object type click art collections.

If you are in the states you can get them at compusa, officemax, officedepot, staples, frys, bestbuy etc...

I used to work for Corel Software and they sell cd's right off corel.com (at least they used to) and they have huge collections they sold in stores at one point in time they had one of the biggest collections of stock photos and clip art.

DGL? Can you actually bogart their graphics onto your site? I'd figure Microsoft of all people would be against that.
