Hello all.. There seems to be a lot of requests for people wanting to identify a surfer on-the-fly to determine his/her country of origin.

I have compiled a list of ip addressed blocks which can determine a surfer's country of origin.

Why would someone want this? To display certain information based on a surfer's country. Certain advertisements for certain audiences for example.

I finished coding this and thought you m ay be interested to test it. It's working on a local server now, but I may push it to a site I have if there is greater interest. (note as of 3/18/03 1:53 am CST (GMT-6) this is a working address, however it's a DHCP assigned one so the link may go dead in a day or two)

Of course I can't guarantee with 100% cetrainty that a surfer will bee in the country I say he/she is in, but it's a fairly accurate gage to determine location.

There is always the possibility of going through a proxy server.

I have a feeling you will find your posted edited by a moderator as you have mentioned a specific personal URL. I would delete it and whack it in your profile if I were you.

well of course on the proxy server thing. that's a given.

thanks for the suggestion.. i modified the post.. it's a shame though.. oh well i suppose rules are there for a reason!
