Hi there,

I'm working with some friends of mine to build a website for their upcoming company. Their company will hold monthly conventions for tabletop gamers in the Chicago area, as a way to bolster the community and bring people together.

They want to build a website with a few specific features:
- Welcome/About/Events info (all static)
- Forums (with user registration)
- Blog

I know that there are plenty of free apps that will let us do one or more of the above, but I was wondering if anyone can suggest a single package that will let us easily do all three.

I've looked at Drupal and Joomla, but I'm not sure if they're the kind of solution we need.

Any suggestions?

Both Drupal and Mambo/Joomla are up to the job. It's all about getting the system set up to operate as you require. Using correct styles and themes is also an important issue.

I think the best thing you can do is install and test as many CMS systems as possible and then make a decision based on what works best for you.

Mack.

Here's a list of about 600 or so to get you started.

I haven't played with Drupal, but Mambo and Joomla are so easy to install, it would be a sin to not play with them first and form your own opinions. Right now they are almost identical, but they plan to follow different courses. Check out the planned upcoming features on their respective sites.
