Kids and Selling on the Web

Okay don't flame me on this one please. I have a client, and a wealthy one at that, who has two nieces age 8 and 13 who have designed a web site selling widgets. He wants to drive traffic to their site to help them out.

Please be kind now, this is a site designed and maintained by young kids. He thought AdWords or other pay per click programs would work. Personally I don't think that this is the best avenue for them.

They just want to share the word and see their site traffic increase and are not really looking to truly market the products. Anyone been in a similar situation and have any suggestions?

kind of a hard one if they aren't really planning on marketing the product.

this thread [webmasterworld.com] would probably be the way to go but if they don't want to really market it who knows.

If he wants to help them out a couple links might be the thing to do.

are they going to be hawking kiddo type widgets, keen teen type widgets, mommy type widgets, punkyfunky mom widgets, poppa type widgets, funny widgets or sporty widgets.

Makes a difference to me anyways on what I'd do to keep a couple of kids interested without deliberately knocking their childhood all outta whack at the same time. Who wants to feel responsible for yet another eating disordered waif anyways.

They are selling cute little feet that are made like dolls, but that is not the real thrust to make money. I think that they just want the excitement that people are actually looking at their site.
