Multiple Sites pointing to one Forum?

I'm starting a number of similarly themed sites and was considering having them all point to single forum to generate the most forum traffic, instead of each site having its own forum. Does this make sense? Are there any penalty implications for all if one site is viewed disfavorably?

So these various sort-of-different sites would really just be gateways to the one forum?
