Hi,

I am in need of some serious help! I have had it with my web designer and am trying to do this on my own. Now, all I want to do is transfer files from my home to his server. I am using a mac and don't know what to do. I have the login and password name from the designer. I think I need an editor, but am not quite sure.

Greetings amythepoet and Welcome to WebmasterWorld :)

I am in need of some serious help! I have had it with my web designer and am trying to do this on my own. Now, all I want to do is transfer files from my home to his server. I am using a mac and don't know what to do. I have the login and password name from the designer. I think I need an editor, but am not quite sure.

A couple of things come to mind:

  • Do you maintain ownership of the design?

  • How do you mean - "transfer files from my home to his server"? Could you elaborate please?

  • I can't help with Mac stuff and the mods may move this post to the Mac forum.

  • What do you mean by 'editor'? Text editor or human editor? If you are referring to an application, The Macintosh Webmaster [webmasterworld.com] might be a better forum to post that question in.

No you need to ftp the files to the server. You will need the url of where to ftp to

    Hi everybody,

Here is the story. Right now, this designer is also my host. He gave me the login name and password so I should be able to log in and change things. I am getting a new designer but he won't be able to start on the site until m-late february. What to do, what to do..

Second problem: .I just want to take some of the test and banner links and add them to my site. I am on a mac. I am sure that my designer won't mind. He even wants me to keep my site with him as I have paid him for a year. But his site goes down sometimes, so I want to move it. I'm disgusted

    What do I do?

As for who has control over the design, right now, the designer does until feb. 1.

As for ftping, I think I can do that, right on the screen, can't I? Do I need a program like dreamweaver or something?

You will need to change the pages you want to and then ftp them to his server.

You see, I have my username from him and my password, but when I log in, it asks for the host's name, I don't know that.

i sent him a message and asked him for that.

Then, he says that the html files are located in such a spot

and then the CGI files are located in another spot

So I just go to the html location and do my thing? I'm still not sure how to do that. I think I need an editor, don't I?

the hosts name may well be our domain name.

As for changing pages if you can't write code then you had better get someone to do it for you.
