Hi,
Just joined my first forum.I'm not sure if I'll be of any help to anyone at this time but hopefully I can learn and get some advice and experience and pay it forward in the future to others like me.I'm my worst enemy-procrastinator of the century.I have had plenty of time to make a website and yet I get cold feet whenever I even think about it.My husband bought me Macromedia Dreamweaver 2004 edition last March for my birthday and I haven't even used it yet.Well, now I have a reason to start using it, and in the last week I've been collecting information on the web.I came across webmasterworld and felt that I could possibly learn quite a bit not by just reading but by joining the forum-hopefully I've made the right decision.I read a post by one of the members I think shes called sincerelysandy and I guess she inspired me to join.My husband recently has been layed off and I told him that he should start an infopreneur site in his health and safety field. He is a walking library when it comes to that subject.I wasn't sure if it was ideal to go the sbi route or create it by using the Dreamweaver program.I would love to hear from other people that have used these programs.thanks SG

The purists will tell you that you need to learn HTML but you can build excellent websites with Dreamweaver alone. There are dozens of books available on it and many tutorials on the 'net.

Go for it!

Thanks BeeDeeDubbleU,
I know thats probably the route to take and in the process I will understand how to get the most performance out of the site by creating it correctly. It just seems so fast and easy to go the sbi route but I won't learn much that way.By the way, hows the weather where you are? Its finally quite warm here in Canada and thanks again.SG

Welcome to WebmasterWorld shrewsburygirl13,

always nice to welcome another canadian :)

dreamweaver is probably your best bet, it can do what the other does. I am assuming sbi stand for some kind of sitebuilder type thing.

>> I have had plenty of time to make a website and yet I get cold feet whenever I even think about it.

hehe, we have all done the same at some point

>> Just joined my first forum

well good thing you picked the right one ;)

Thanks for the welcome Jatar and txbakers. It's nice to know that I do have a good program to start with.I was talking about Site Build It hosting company out of Montreal.Anyways, I'm quite broke right now and since I have the program and the time to work with it I think I'll try to give it a go and not be too anxious on achieving that website so quickly. Thanks

one thing that might help you find valuable information quickly around here since it is such a big forum.

each forum has a library link above the forum title

New to Web Library [webmasterworld.com]
HTML forum Library [webmasterworld.com]

those can give you some great threads.

Dreamweaver can help you do a lot of things because of it's graphical interface. You can also view the source which can you show you what the actual html code looks like. After a while you will get the hang of it. It is just getting over that first hurdle that is difficult. You always feel there are too many things you don't understand, I still feel the same way after a bunch of years, don't let that discourage you. ;)

remember, content is king, getting the content for a site is often the hardest part. For the design of the site, start simple, good navigation and not too many graphical elements. You may find this makes it much easier to get started and also is a method that many of us took a long time to adopt. If you start this way you may be way ahead of us out of the gate.

Don't make the mistake of trying to become an amateur graphic designer too quickly. If you do your site will look like it is designed by an amateur. Spend a lot of time looking at the layout of other sites and try to emulate (not copy ;o) those that you like.

I would suggest that you go for the four box model ... header at the top, menu column on left or right, main content adjacent to this and footer at the bottom. Avoid fancy graphical buttons. Use text links as this will all help with SEO on your site.

nvu is decent for creating and managing pages and sites with text and pictures sites, and it is free.

Hi Guys,
It's real nice to have some feed back so soon.I appreciate it very much. Its 3:37 p.m. here and my daughter just walked in and is invivted to play ice hockey in a girls team tonight. My son is jealous of the fact and refuses to go watch her.The golden pup under my desk keeps wanting to play with my feet and I cant really start tonight with all these side distractions but I must admit that I very excited to start on my venture first thing tomorrow morning.I'll try the library and html Jatar and I hear you BeeDee on graphics; something of a problem for me because I'm very LADIDA.I'll check out NVU as well;it doesn't hurt to look at everything, but I think I will definately try the dreamweaver I own.Oh and one more thing, where is it best to get good old style {1900's} graphics to use on my site. Thanks again for all the input.
