Hi All, I'm a newbie when it comes to anything bar html but would like to move into making a living from webdesign. Can anyone recommend an area worth starting with or specialising in which is in demand and decent money. Ie to start off with on my long climb to being a all rounder? i.e. Logo/banner design, graphics, Flash, SEO, Support etc...
Also which language should I choose to start with? ASP, ASP.NET, PHP? Am leaning towards PHP and mysql?

Thanks in Advance

If you want to be an employee, the wages appear to be better in advanced Flash, asp.net, database design and the more esoteric programming languages.

On the other hand, if you are aiming to work for yourself SEO/M, usability and (probably) LAMP may be the better start.

What's LAMP?

p.s. I don't really want to do programming for a living. Want php for my own designing, but i'm more of a creative and business person.

1. HTML - if life is web design, HTML = breathing
2. CSS - saves lots of time, less browser bugs, exact positioning of elements, overlapping elements
3. FLASH - a quick way to make some $ doing freelance...everyone these days says "i want flash no matter what!"
4. COLDFUSION - dynamic websites are now possible
5. JAVASCRIPT - simple amount will do...like rollovers and such
