Hello! I am new to webmasterworld. I am hoping to find some advice on sound files in a website.

A client of mine wants to have sound on his webpage. I have a 1.8MB MP3 file. So my questions are this:

1) What is the best file format to use - MIDI? Does anyone know what will make the file smaller? My boss is hesitent to cut the music (from 2.02minutes to 30 seconds and loop)

2) Can anyone point me in the direction of a Flash tutoril on how to create on/off buttons - assuming this is the best way to go... Is it?

Unless its a music site i wouldn't bother.
If i find myself assaulted with sound when i visit a site i immediately exit, never to return.

You can use javascript to toggle an mp3 on/off on a webpage. mp3 is a better choice over midi because of the quality.

I would recommend starting in the 'off' position and giving the user a choice if they want to turn it on or not.
