Suspicious Intentions....

Hello,
I have had a horrific experience with a web design firm. Mainly with excess charges above and beyond the scope of the contract. If I sneeze they tack on another grand or so. Hope many of you new, learn from the above. Anyway, one year free hosting is included but of course I don't trust them, nor do I feel like doing them any favors. Can they use my site (which actually is pretty good) to their benefit in any way shape or form? Even though it's free I'm still thinking of leaving.

Thanks

They might add a link to their own site at the bottom of your page(s); that would help them.

In general I would say: don't do business with people you don't trust --you can find a very decent hosting package for $100-200/year or so. (They even exist for $1/month, but perhaps "you gets what you pays for...")

Good hosting is pretty cheap. It's worth switching for peace of mind, plus you'll make up the difference in allergy meds and can sneeze in peace.

If I do forfeit the sneeze-a-grand outfit and get a new host, I suppose that means I lose any and all technical/assistace privileges I would have had. True?

Thanks

Oh you have to give us a link to your site. $1,000 and everytime you sneeze you get charged?

What kind of site is this, ecommerce?

I always insist that my clients register their names and contract hosting themselves (perhaps with my help) thus allowing them to move to another designer as and when they please.
Unfortunately others don't do the same and situations like your's arise.

How do you make a website? I have NO idea.

That is rather a broad question LollyDomain. :-)
Well first off you need to decide, what do you want on your web site.
Then you need to decide whether you want to create it yourself or if beyond your skills, get someone else to create it for you.
There are lots of tools out there for creating web pages, both static and dynamic.

hosting costs are/should be negligible for a website costing in the 4 figures, unless its a very big project with tons of traffic. you can get v cheap hosting nowadays.

in other words, hosting freebies should not keep you with this firm.

they could use your site to put in their portfolio and show to other potential clients. ive done that with sites the client did not decide to use.
