How do you change the color of a link in Dreamweaver? I created a link and Dreamweaver turned the link text into blue. I don't mind if it's blue after someone clicks the link and goes to the page but before that I'd like it to be white. Anyone can shed some light on this for a newbie?

Which version of Dreamweaver? 4? MX?

If it's MX, highlight the link, and the Properties window at the bottom of the page should show info on the text, and on the second line there should be a line that includes:

Font [ ] Size [ ] [pixels] [ ] [ ]

with each [ ] representing a box for choices. That fourth little box should be a square with a tiny arrow at the bottom. Click the arrow, pick your favorite color, and presto!

Alternatively, type the color (or hex code) you want into the box just to the right of that square.

Thanks Treeline. Is there a way to change the link color of certain links without changing all the link colors on the page in Dreamweaver MX 2004?

The way I described will change it just for that one link, and create a new "style" for it. You can apply that style to additional links by highlighting them and choosing from the drop down STYLE box (just above the SIZE box).

You can also create a universal style for all links on a page, or for visited links, or....

You know what's weird? I tried what you suggested and it won't let me save the change. I have the link highlighted but after I try to switch to white it doesn't save it. I also tried to manually change the HEX code to number sign followed by all F's and still it didn't take. Any suggestions?

hmmm.....

Works like a charm for me. Are you editing a page based on a template? If so you may need to edit the template itself directly. See if you can change the text of the link. If you can't, you need to track down why. Assuming you can change the text, then see what you're trying to change the color of.

At the bottom of the document editing window, just above the PROPERTIES window there is a thin bar that shows the different elements you are working with. It typically looks like:

<body><table><tr><td><p><font><a>

or whatever the structure of your page is. Highlight your link, and make sure the <a> is what's highlighted on this thin bar. Then try again. If the <a> looks like <a.style1> or similar, try choosing another style.

-or- right click your link, and try CSS STYLES and choose an option shown, or experiment with NEW or MANAGE STYLES. This is an alternative way to using the PROPETIES window at the page bottom.
