got placed way back in google search

why once on page one, now page 30

This is my first post so be gentle... Several months ago google listed me very high on the first page with the search phrase "blue widget" All of a sudden, using the same search phrase, I am hovering between page 28-33 (ten results per page) I made my site using Front Page, and I don't know if I messed up code in http edit mode. The uncanny thing is, is that using the same search Phrase I am very close to the top with Yahoo, webcrawler, dogpile, and number one (after sponsored sites of course) with Ask Jeeves. Why has Google shoved me so far back.

Your Google rankings can change everyday. I have lots of keywords which will be at #3 one day and then #30 the next. Only to return to #3 a few days later. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Google does place more weight on off-page factors like backlinks. So, you should try to get as many relevant links pointing to your site as possible.

Front page shouldn't cause this. But I would recommend that you turn off all of the extra code it insterts into your pages. It's also best to edit your site locally and then publish or FTP it after you've checked for errors.

May I ask please, when you say back links , do you mean that these links are not reciprocal in that the unilateral?
