How can I get the googlebot to work it's way through my site?

Does your site have regular html links to other pages in your site? Are your pages dynamic?

I get that often. hits one page and leaves. The next month I get a little better crawl and show pr0 and 1 on most pages. A month later much better PR and a much deeper crawl. It's like clockwork for me.
