Question regarding affiliate programs

I am developing a web site devoted to a type of product sold by company X, and I see LinkShare handles this merchant. However, company X's main business is not selling this particular type of product, and I'm worried (I always worry about things) that this particular product is not included in the items offered via the affiliate program.

It being that the site does not yet exist, it seems that I can't yet join that affiliate program in order to find out how things work there. Is there any way of finding out exactly what items are offered?

Do a search on Google for the product you are wanting to sell. I guess you'll find some affiliates selling it. Go ahead and follow their links to the mearchants and see if they sell that product. This will also give you an idea of the competition and let you know of other merchants selling that product.
