Have what seems to be a 'Catch-22' problem

when I run stats from my host, it shows that I'm getting 404 errors on a particular image. I can find the image but I haven't the slightest idea of what it is, since it won't display in QuickTime, due to the fact it has an error in it. Any clues as to how to get it to display?
When I check out the site, I see nothing wrong on any of the pages. Have checked it with different browsers & many different PC's. Have never gotten an error while browsing thru it. Have asked the tekkies at our host--no clue! HELP! Am burning out the last 8 neurons I have left.

What's the extension of the image, QTI or QTIF or something?

If you're getting 404's and you think all your pages are loading ok yet you don't know what the image is, why not remove it from your pages and then test them?

And welcome to WW, btw.

Sorry-it's a gif image. '1x1.gif'.
Thanx for the speedy reply & welcome.

With a name like 1x1.gif, it is almost certainly a 1 by 1 pixel transparent spacer image.

The easiest way to fix the problem is just to make a new one in a graphic editor, and name it 1x1.gif again, and upload it in the appropriate directory where the 404 error is occuring.

Ok, will attempt to figure out what this puppy is and hopefully fix it.
One last question: Is 'NetMechanic' worth the $60 a year? Any opinions or recommendations appreciated.

Thanx, Foz.

Wasn't there a thread here a while back that addressed a 1x1px.gif as some sort of adware thing? Oh - here's a thread about them:

Not nice....

First of all, kudos to you, 2odd, encyclo & vk for answering my post. Thanks to all of you.

Here's what I did: I deleted the 1x pixel & reference to it. The blasted thing is on every page (15) of my website. Uploaded the correction (I use CuteSiteBuilder).
My webhost is Ipowerweb.
Here's what happened. When I use NetMechanic to check my site later--guess what? The &$(@#& thing is back in there! AAARRRRGG!
My main concern is for the people who visit my site. I don't want some jerkoff ad agency or anyone else to track anyone that visits it. I am totally anti-spam!
I have sent emails to Ipower & CuteSiteB. No answers.
Any ideas?<suggestions, etc?
Thanx, Bill. (aka, TheFoz)

PS=Believe it or not, I am a personal friend of Richard Blair who is the son of George Orwell who wrote the book (in case you never heard of it) '1984', in 1949!
I'm beginning to think his dad was right-just missed the year!

I have the same type of single pixel on my pages, because at present, until I get a certain problem sorted, I'm using the free version of the software.

That pixel allows them to place an advert on my site and produce a heartwarming "This page was created with the FREE version of Coolpage! Click here to get your FREE copy!" every time a visitor clicks an external link.

so my first question is, have you paid for the software?

P.

Then you just put me off using CuteSiteBuilder..

Besides, template, shemplates, try Coolpage or Sitespinner.

:o)
