I’m VERY new to this, but eager to learn.
Is there a free site / thread / e-book etc. that can teach me about SEO. I don't want to pay an expensive company, I actually want to learn about it, so, I can help myself.

Can anyone suggest a site or book etc?

Thanks,
T

And be sure to make friends with the "flag this thread" link down below. Use it to save the threads that are most educational -- once saved, they'll be in your Control Panel (see link at top). You will find yourself wanting to return to them time and time again.

As an answer to 'how to optimise my pages' all you have to say is spam. Doesn't sould like you Craig. ;)

Seriously - you cannot do much better than starting here - the SEO issues which aren't covered here are few and far between (and probably fall into the category - 'I could tell you, but I would have to kill you' - and even some of those can be found floating around).

Apart from that - there's a lot to be said for analysing sites which are ranking for the terms you are wanting to target.

well i read alot of threads here and now rank in the top 10 google and yahoo for a few keywords and phrases. ive only been live since the beginning of this month.

my site is personal and non-commercial for now, and pops up above well established commercial sites, and my site aint even completed yet

i do get nbr one results for phrases i never thought of, so i need to make some changes there too. but thanks to the information on this forum (and ONLY this forum) i can see my site progressing to something i could be making money off a few months from now. doing SEO on your site is evolutionary and requires alot of attention.

the info here is really great and it works!

ive only been live since the beginning of this month.

don't want to bum you out, but this is a documented pattern in google, you jump up in the rankings for a new site, almost immediately, then you drop out of them for a month or two, then you creep back up, not as high.

Search 'sandbox affect' to learn more.
