Hello, I'm extremely new to web development. I've bought Dreamweaver MX 2004 and Fireworks, although I'm a bit or should I say completely lost.

Are there any sites or on here which have ready made templates for MX?

Thanx Joe

Have you tried using your search engine of choice to look for "dreamweaver templates?" Also, have you visited the Macromedia Exchange? It's accessible from Commands Menu > Get More Commands... It's a site for plug-ins more than templates, but you'll find that quite a few plug-in developer sites also offer some template ideas. :)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Joe_Forest!

Heh Joe

Ignore the built in tutorial for Dreamweaver. It'll have you making huge files in "layout view" that'll create monster tables. You need to learn in the "code and design" view so you become accustomed to both worlds from the start.

But before you get into that, the best advice for a complete newb with all this at their disposal is to leave it aside, for now, and learn HTML. You don't havbe to learn it fluently, that'll come in time, but if you get the basics pinned down the rest'll fall into place with staggering ease.

Then place this knowledge into the DW development environment and see how and how fast your code translates into real web pages.

Fireworks is an excellent image editor - but don't be fooled into thinking you can design entire sites using it, you can, but they are monsters as well - learn how to create flexible graphics and well optimised images and then you will start to see how to really exploit it.

It's a long road, to get the best results percivere there is a huge amount of trial and error involved but it is very rewarding.

Good luck

Take your time with Dreamweaver. It will be your best friend as time goes on. You will be able to use the program to it's ultimate strength if you start to understand the details of how it ties everything together. Templates and Libraries, along with the way it handles the uploading of the site content are some of the best features.

The help menu is very helpful, and so is searching on google.
