I've got a client that has just moved offices into a managed building. The building uses a ms exchange server to distribute email and I need to set up my hosting server correctly in order for the client to receive the email.

I think I need to alter a records and host names, but having never done this before, have no idea what i'm doing! I've spoken briefly with the building's tech support people but could do with it explaining in less techy language.

Can someone please enlighten me on the process. The client currently has 4 pop3 email addresses.

hi Urban_Feaather,

Welcome to webmasterworld.

The entry you need to alter is called an mx entry. You may be able to alter this through your web hosts admin area. (control panel)

MX is mail exchange and you should alter this entry to point to your mail servers ip address or host name. Your isp would be best to explain this to you because there are a lot of different set-up's for different hosting providers. Generaly hosts will allow users to alter their dns records, but usualy the changes do not happen right away, it can take up to 24 hrs for a dns change to take effect. Some hosts do not offer this, but may be able to do it for you if you call them.

Hope this is of some help.

Mack.
