This is the best summary of how to do just that (even better actually), written by the owner of this site:

Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone [webmasterworld.com]

Read it over and over until you've memorized it. :)

Hey new2this,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld and a very good question!

Your content pages should contain information about the products you sell. On the web "content is king". It is your content that search engine spiders will read when they visit your website. Try to make your content as related to your products as possible. Offer the user as much information as possible.

On a site that sells a product your content is your sales person. Make it convincing, persuasive and informative. Think of your site as a high street store. If you walk in and the staff member comes up and says "red dress $40" it isn't enough! you would want information about the product. Your site should supply this.

Having said that you should be very carefull not to go into information overdrive. On the page that sells the product you may have very general information. You could also have links to more detailes descriptions, such as sizes, materials etc. Do not have all the information in one location, because this will make the page very complicated to use.

When people arrive on your site, they are probably the equivilent of online window shoppers, they may like the look of your products, but if they cant find the information they require, they may just click the back button and visit another site on the results page.

Mack.

Hi new2this:)
From: frenzy77

Welcome to WW I'm new here as well.(about 3 weeks)
Anyway, about your question,...I assume that you have not read all the information that you need to help your site with it's promotion. Well your gonna have to read alot of information to promote it. Such areas would be your title elements, url, h1, alt attribute, content of the pages, bold text etc. The above thread is great. But your gonna have to alot more reading, as there are alot of good threads on promoting your site. Here is a good thread to help you understand what Brett is speaking about(content) as well as other good links on these pages:

[webmasterworld.com...]

Well there is alot of information out there, so start reading it all. When I first got here I was overwhelmed by the amount of information that is here. I did not know that I needed to do all this to promote a website. I thought it was just design the site(html) and then put it up on the internet. Man was I wrong. I had to just sit down and start reading everything 8) I read for hours and hours everyday.(8hrs+everyday, no joke. I still continue to read for hours everyday.) Anyway, that's just me.

Well, blah blah blah......I've gone on long enough, it's time for you start studying:)

Good luck! :)
ps: sticky mail me if you need some help, I'll help as much as I can.
