I am not new to web development, but I have just started offering Web Development Services commercially. I am a bit confused about the price that I should quote to my customers. Would anyone be kind enough to give me an idea about the price range?
(should be a very competitive price quote)

1. For 5-6 static HTML, CSS pages?
2. For 30-40 pages static HTML, CSS pages?
3. For Dynamic Web ites?
4. E-commerce web sites with Shopping Cart, Email List, Members Log in

Should I charge the whole amount in Advance or a portion (25%/50%) of the whole amount in advance?

Hi Nil, and Welcome!

Your question is very similar (apart from the UK context) to one posed in this thread [webmasterworld.com].

Check out the link at the foot of the first post - well worth reading through. Then read the replies to the thread I just posted above. By that time you should have a much better insight into what you are asking here, and a few ideas about answers too.

Pricing structure for web development services differ greatly depending on your own experience. The biggest factor is without a doubt your time and what financial tag you put on that.

Being the cheapest is not always the best way, if your work is of a high standard then your price should reflect this.

In terms of payment options, I always ensure I have my costs covered before I go any further. Sometimes asking for a token payment is advisable also. That way if their plans change or you lose the contract, you do not end up out of pocket.

It is also a good idea to try and negotiate some form or retainer, whereby they will pay you so much a month/incident for minor changes and/or updates to the site.
