problem with image map

I created an image map but when I put it on my website the links work but there is a white box with an x where the image is supposed to be

It sounds like the image isn't where it's supposed to be. Check your filepath. The first suspect is a typo in the code. The second suspect is that the image isn't where you said it was. (It is always possible that you uploaded the .html file and forgot to upload the image, or simply put it in the wrong directory.)

you guys are great the image was not pointing to my website it did'nt have a path I inserted my url into the image now its all set thanks alot all of you.

BTW, it used to be a bad idea to use image maps because spiders either couldn't or struggled with following the links. I'm not sure how much this has changed, but I'd advise against images maps. Cut the graphics up into individual parts and make them individual links. Also make sure to have text based links as alternatives as link text is an important part of SERP ranking.

Concur.

I avoid image maps. Breaking up the images can improve the speed of the download. It also makes a more downward compatible solution. (Netscape 4.7 does not recognize image maps.)
