I have many friends and collegues who use computers regularly but only for email and surfing the internet. They have no idea about the settings on their computers or how to change them. It has been requested by some members that I set up a (clearly marked) page where their settings are changed automatically for them.
Before anyone tells me what a bad idea this is, I already know. I just want to know if it is possible and if the scripts are easily available. I have had a search but was unable to find any.

What a bad idea! <joke :) >

You can't do this with any "normal" script, you need an ActiveX or Java applet running on the local machine in trusted mode. Don't even think that this works on IE6 unless you manually add the site as "Most trusted". Best way would be a downloadable executable, but then you've got all of the "trust" issue.

Stick up a page with clear instructions on how to do this under different OS.
