Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me what's the process involved to moving my website from my current host to my private webserver, assuming i have apache all ready and waiting?

from what i got from googling around.

1) I need to change my DNS record to the new primary and secondary DNS + address.
For example abc.com 192.68.12.197

Is that all to it? Or is there something else I missed?

thanks in advance!

Welcome to Webmasterworld, ChaosTheory

If you have set up the virtual host accordingly, the DNS change should be enough.

I would advise you however the leave the old server running for another week (or longer if you can afford it). DNS changes take some while to propagate through the whole net, and it has been mentioned on WW before that especially GoogleBot is slow on picking up new IP addresses.

PMK is correct, always leave the site up on the OLD server until a few days have passed (and email all your friends to verify that the correct domain shows up).

One way to 'test' the new domain/old domain switchover is to have an extra character or image on the new domain, that way when people reply to you, they can say "yes I see the!" or the "##" or whatever that you have hosted in the new location.

Good luck,
