PR and Ranking question

Dear Colleagues,

Recently, my site got a lift from PR 6 to 7; however, the site still doesn't appear in search results. I am surprised because I see sites with PR6 in the first 20 listings.

I was under the impression that sites were ranked based on PR. Also, is there a way I can find out what my site's rankings are--and under which keywords? Is there any free resource to check that? I am mainly interested in tracking my google results.

Thanks in advance for your help and expertise.

Sincerely,
Omkar

Page Rank is only one factor of many used to determine rank. I believe that site content and what other sites say about you count for more.

I'd check your log files to see what terms people are using that result in clicks to your site and build on that.

There are many factors of how you claw your way to the top of the rankings. You need to build a strategical linking program with industries similar to yours. There are other elements too which determine where you will result. Look into inbound anchor link text.

PR is only a minor factor. I have a brand new site that was getting 70 or so visits per day. It is only a niche market so this is quite good for a new site. My PR went from PR0 to PR4 at the last PR update yet my visitors went from 70 or so to 20-25 per day.

There is still a lot I need to do with the site but I'm just letting it run its course for now until I have finished my new project. There is far more to getting ranked well than just a good PR. I have seen sites with PR6 before with a very unhealthy Alexa rating (into the millions). The reason? - they had hardly any content in their site.

Again! I have discussed again n again that PR is one minor factor for rankings. You may have Rank-1 for a webpage with PR 1,2,3. And as it goes in your case PR-6,7,8 and no rank in Top-100.

Dont be discouraged frend. These Google guys r fanatics. Right now they r so jumbled up that even they dont realize whats happening. But its for the greater good for SE. Google will benchmark an ideal serach engine with ideal results. Finger-crossed.
