Hi all

I have a problem. I have recently made changes to a site that has existed for many months in the google index. The new changes for example changing the title tag appeared in the google search results for 1 day and also the google cache changed accordingly. Then 1 day later the old content has returned this is the old title and cache of the site. How is this possible?

I have heared of google indexing and dropping and reindexing first time round but nothing about doing it after the site has been established.

Surly if i was banned it would not have appeared in the index in the first place? and my older version would be removed.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Google does not just have one copy of their index. They have a dozen datacentres, and each datacentre has 10 000 computers. Google also keeps backups and old indexes, and is constantly experimenting with algo changes.

Allow at least a month for the old result to disappear, but even then it could still reappear for the odd day or two once or twice per month for a very long time into the future (> 6 m).

Thanks very much.

This is a normal occurance then because there are no listing on this anywhere, I thought I might have done something wrong so they put the last version back.

People have occasionally reported that Google briefly reverted to using some cache or title or description for their site which hasn't actually been on the site for a year or more.

See where you are in another month from now.
