Can someone define "root" file for me.

Site root: The very top directory of your site accessible using [yourdomain.com...]
Server root: The very top directory on your server - accessible to the system administrator (who might be you).

An analogy on a Windows box would be that c: is the root directory for files on your hard drive.

How about the directory that contains all other directories (In a hierarchy file system).
