What software are you using for your forum?

I seem to recall that there is a mod for phpbb2 that creates seach engine friendly URL's, which would certainly help. But... Be careful what you wish for. A spider, such as the googlebot, crawling your forum could easily chew up a lot of bandwidth as well as putting a heavy load on your server (which could cause troubles with your hosting provider). I'd recomend setting up a good robots.txt file in your forum's directory in order to keep out spiders that you don't want. There are many spiders out there, some of which will benefit your site, others may simply eat up bandwidth and server resources with no benefit to you...

phpbb has session IDs attached to the URLs - if you view a thread and see something like "sid=2fb2e36fe6a9aa2246e159ba9b7854f9" you will need to either install the phpbb googlebot hack so that googlebot can spider the forums, or get rid of the session IDs another way.
