Title say's it all really . . .

I've got a site of around 400 pages, as well as having a huge list linking to each page, I would like to offer the punter the option to just "search this site" for what they're looking for.

But I dunno how it's coded/done etc.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Bendy, you have to set up and install and search script. You can find plenty to choose from at hotscripts.com and a lot of them are free.

There are many ways of doing this. The simplest method would be to use Google site search. With this you simply paste some code into your pages and the user gets the option to search pages from your site or the web. You can read more about this on the google website.

Another option would be to use a search script. This is something you would actualy install on your site. One I would recoment would be "fluid dynamics search engine" this is very easy to use and set up.

There are many more remotly hosted solutions such as "free find" they offer pretty much the same service as Google site search exept without the search the web option.

Hope this helps.

Mack.

If your able to install server side scripts I'd suggest
ht*p://www.perlfect.com/freescripts/search/ which provides a free perl script that should prove simple to adapt.

I have used and still use FDSE. Inexspensive but yet very robust. Just search over at Google on FDSE.

I like sitelevel.whatuseek.com
I have it re-spider my site every time I add a few pages. With Google, I would have to wait until Googlebot felt like re-spidering.

atomz offers a free (and ad-free) version of their search tool. excellent and easy to implement. 500 page maximum though.
