New Palm m130

m130 hits the streets

Palm introduced two new pda's [wired.com] last week.

While the 515 was pretty much panned as overpriced and under powered to compete with the HP, Sony's, and Ipaqs - the new 130 looks to make for a real contender.

The 130 is a full color Palm that is selling for $279 on the street. That puts it as about the cheapest full color pda you can buy. It runs the newest Palm v4.1 os with 8meg of memory.

They also recently introduced their mega-spendy always-on internet connected email monster machine... the i705 at $449

Yikes! I'd love to get wireles email on my PDA, and the i705 would actually make me consider defecting from my Handspring Visor Edge to a Palm on it's form-factor, but up here in Interior Alaska, wireless access is something you take out a second mortgage for (palm.net isn't available), and I just can't see paying much money for internet access on such a tiny screen....

Don't even know if it's usable with non-palm.net wireless internet either.

Well, it was a toss up between a new iPaq/Jornada, and a new Laptop. So instead, I went with the 130, AND the Laptop. Those will tide me over until the pda's get real 'serious' about CE. We are still in the elementary stages of these things.
