mobile phone HTML problems

I'm developing a webpage for mobile phones for the first time and have run into a weird bug.

I have a very small table with three columns and, on a Nokia running the Symbian OS, the cells of the table are 100% width. So my tiny table with its two rows of three cells becomes six boxes stacked vertically. There are no styles or attributes set in the cells.

Does anyone know why this could be happening? Or can anyone point me to a resource for mobile phone browser quirks?
