Not really sure whether to go for a PDA or a new mobile phone - ideally I'm after something that is WiFi enabled, and can dial up on its own, if there's no WiFi network.
The HP 4150 looks alright, but not for the dial up.
What do you use...any suggestions?
I currently use an ipaq 4350, which is pretty much the same minus the cellular. Its a great little machine, but I think I'm going to upgrade to the phone unit pretty soon.
A funny story: Yesteday I got my phone bill (my first for the new phone). It was $1226.31!
Apparently, the Verizon store forgot to set me up with the unlimited data plan. I called them and I think I got things straighted out. We'll see when the next bill arrives. :)
I wish it had WiFi access, that is the only feature I miss.
I prefer the high res screen of the Windows based smartphones, but the amount of free apps for Palms makes up for it.
Just got mine today from T-mobile. So far, I'm pretty impressed. It's gonna be nice to have both devices in one. Of course, with any hybrid device, I'm willing to sacrafice a bit of performance for the form factor and functionality.
I'll try to give a good review of the device after I get some time to use it a bit more. So far it is quite cool, but I need some good apps (Looking in Jake's direction for a Texas Hold 'em recommend), and the thumb keyboard leaves a bit to be desired (handcramps after not very long).
Suggestions on a bluetooth headset would be appreciated too.
* browsing/blogging when don't want to carry a laptop.
* playing a few games on a train.
* listening to some music (don't need 1000 songs - can switch out memory cards for this).
* syncing with outlook and carrying some excel files around (so pocket windows 2003 i'm guessing).
* wi-fi enabled.
* expandable with random equipment/downloads for when you just want to see what else it can do.
What would you suggest?
I also have a samsung 600 smart phone.
The samsung isn't very good at "surfing" (painfully small screen), but it can be good to check for emergency level emails. The nice thing is that it fits in my pocket.
The Ipaq is awesome at surfing. With the Sierra card, I am at a little better than dialup speed, anywhere in the US that verizon goes for $79 a month unlimited xfer. I also have the foldable keyboard for it. The whole package fits into a small camera case nicely.
The problem is that the Ipaq is heavy and fairly large. So, I don't take it nearly as often as I used too.
