remote device to hook up two computers

I've heard there is a remote device out there that allows user to hook up two computers, using only one server and without a second server bill. Don't know what it's called or how it works. I currently have one computer on satellite and the other is a laptop. Any help for this novice will be appreciated.

It sounds like you may be looking for a router? That would allow you to share your connection, act as a DHCP server of sorts and route local LAN traffic depending on the model.
