I am sorry if this is a repost but i cant find this anywhere. I want to start a brand new website with the same theme. I owned widgeta.com and now i plan to do widgetb.com. I got all the contents in widgeta.com and now can i use the same content for widgetb.com? I mean i write all the contents myself but if i place the same contents on widgetb.com, will this be considered as copyright issue? or would SE ban both of my websites for the same content? or SE will just ban widgetb.com because of copying widgeta.com. I am creating widgeta.com at my home, so if i use the same content and publish widgetb.com will SE know that i am from the same i.p add and banned both my websites?

Any advice will be much appreciated. THanks

I can't speak to the SEO issue, but I can the copyright issue. If you wrote the content for site widgeta, and didn't sell the rights to anyone else, you own it. You can do anything you want with it, including using it on another site.

EileenC is right if you wrote your content for site A then yes you can use it on site B, but from an SEO point of view this is considered duplicate content and could/would get the second site banned.

There is a rumour that google can identify as little as one paragraph on a page as duplicate content, could even be a sentence of text if they wanted to...who knows

Now that said there are plenty of sites out there doing exactly the same and getting away with it, that's the chance you would have to take...

Yes thats why i wana ask. because i saw a lot of other websites doing the same thing. From their design, i can know that they are owned by the same webmaster and even the email is the same. And they are getting good pr too. But the thing is how do google determines this because there are so many same contents outside on the web. For e.g, you have to place the same exact affiliate links in order to get credit.

Buy widget at widgeta.com
Widgeta has a lof of widgets and its tasty. Click here to enter....

and such... so how do SE determins this? This is worrying me because i do not know whether this will be accepted or not.

This subject is debatable, because it has been said also that duplicate content just gets downgraded not banned. In this case of downgrade, it makes sense to create another site because it might reach a market that likes your other design and/or domain name.

One useful way of showing that you aren't spamming, is to name the original source of the content. Therefore, you can tell your visitors in widgeta.com that the content is originally from widget.com. Plus, if you add some unique content to widgeta.com it even makes more sense.

If you are planning to copy pages from one site and place them unchanged on the second site, don't bother. Your second site will not do well in the long run. If you change the pages for the second site by at least 30%, it will be treated as a different site.

But why would you want a second site that is a duplicate? You might want to consider focusing on a different target market for the second site. That way at least there is a purpose for its existence.

Thx for all the comments. My opinion is if i create another website with the same theme, i can get more page views and visitors instead of focusing on one site. i am doing affiliate links on my website, therefore if i do the same to both websites, then maybe i can get more income on it. i saw other competitors doing the same. its just widgeta.com and widgeta.net. the whole theme is the same and contents also same. one more thing is widgeta.com is mainly consists of affiliate i.ds, and it is not allowed to change the affiliate link code and description. so basically these are all considered as one whole page of affiliate i.ds website with affiliate contents. now how can we determine whether this is good or not? :>
