I have needed a copywriter for a few sites I have been working on. Where is the best place to find a decent copywriter and a reasonable price?

I have tried doing it myself. Not Good.
I have tried hiring a University Student. Not Reliable.
I need some other ideas.

Thanks

Other ideas:
- try placing an online ad or newpaper ad
- try another college student, perhaps seeking recommendations from a prof
- use a freelance agency like rentacoder or elance

Check past work samples and, if possible, references. The fact that one student turned out to be unreliable doesn't mean that every student will be that way (though you can expect conflicting priorities and, in some cases, limited work experience).

I use Elance [elance.com] - excellent choice of copywriters and I often find one with direct experience of the subject matter.

ask other designers who they use (if you know any).

also check with PR agencies. If they can't or won't do the project, they probably know some decent writers.

Also, many times writers (meaning people who consider themselves authors) support themselves by doing freelance copywrighting.

....just like musicians give lessons...a necessary evil to some.
