I posted something about this in Foo. At the time I was just flabbergasted over it happening, but now, I think it makes amazon brilliant.

I was making a page for my hobby site focusing on a certain keyword phrase. I popped into amazon to put together a listmania of books on the subject and then used the listmania as an associate link from my site. Before my page had even been crawled, the listmania I created on amazon came up #1 for the keyword phrase I was aiming for.

Thousands of people build listmanias for amazon, write reviews and basically build content for amazon all for free all while shopping their site. How brilliant is that?

Amazon certainly do know how to promote their products. I am currently in the process of a complete redesign of my site and it will include product reviews, which will hopefully improve our SERP rankings. Content is king, especially if the customer writes it!
