Hello everyone,

I want to register a domain name, but the domain name I like is the title of a novel. Is that against copyright? I want to know because I don't want to get sued or anything. Thanks for the help. :)

Titles can't be copyrighted. Go for it.

Titles of novels do show up as trademarks at the Patent and Trademark office (uspto.gov).

I would do a lot more research, but my understanding is that if the use is completely different, you are in the clear.

A lot depends on the name and purpose of the site.

If you proceed, I would post a disclaimer on the index page, that you are not affiliated with the book.

A series can be trademarked. An individual novel title cannot.

If this is the US market, check the US trademark database to see if anyone has trademarked the term.

A series can be trademarked. An individual novel title cannot.

Some book titles have been trademarked in the US without being a series. Usually, it's because they want to market other promotional items (T-shirts, toys, etc) or to bring the story into other media (movies, cd's, etc).
